It is with deep regret that Arts & Corks has closed. Sadly, in November the city determined that I would need to install a fire suppression sprinkler system throughout the entire downtown building where I leased a retail space in order to stay open for business, which was far, far outside of my limited financial means as a small business. Both the bar and the paint classes were closed down for almost 2 months during the holiday season (Nov & Dec is the busiest paint-party time of the year). I scrambled to figure out a solution that the city would agree to and allow me to be open for business to earn money for rent and payroll. Unfortunately, by the time the city agreed to a temporary solution, I had run out of money to pay the rent due on my prime downtown space, much less pay for physical changes required by the city or pay for new licenses and permits. Since I didn't have rent or even a valid prospect of opening to earn rent, the landlord had no choice but to ask me to vacate so they can lease the space to a new tenant. And as I had to leave the building and no longer have the means to earn revenue, the bank now owns all the studio and bar equipment. So that is the short of it, of what happened to the studio. The plan to add a full bar with spirits took the last of my reserves, but for the 4 days prior to the city closure, we had an amazing response, fabulous reviews and I was looking forward to putting the Christmas classes on with the extra "spirits" available on our menu. I regret that lack of a sprinkler system closed us down before I got to share the full vision of what Arts & Corks was going to be, with my many loyal customers. I want to thank everyone who has supported Arts & Corks Studio. Thank you for allowing me to share my love of art and painting with you over the past 3 years. I hope you found a spark of joy in the process of creating and I wish you all the best. Keep painting, say nice things about yourself and others, and remember, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. God Bless and Goodbye. Regina
